“Unknowingly, we end up harming many animals by bursting firecrackers. Meanwhile, scores of locals in Dehradun orgainsed a campaign against bursting of firecrackers and pressed the state government to impose a blanket ban on them. The state pollution control board’s move comes days after the Supreme Court’s order that had imposed a two-hour slot, i.e. “The data, which will be sent to the Central Pollution Control Board, will help the policy makers to decide the next course related to bursting crackers during Diwali and other festivities,” added Subudhi. Subudhi said the department has already recorded the noise levels on November 1 across these seven cities and now, re-recording would be done on Diwali night. The intent behind measuring the noise levels is to determine the impact of bursting firecrackers on the air ambient quality,” said SP Subudhi, member of the state pollution control board. “This is for the first time that Uttarakhand has chosen these seven cities for recording pre-Diwali and Diwali noise levels. For this, the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board has selected seven cities- Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Kashipur, Rudrapur and Haldwani.

DEHRADUN: For the first time ever in Uttarakhand, the state pollution control board would be recording the noise pollution levels on pre-Diwali and Diwali days to determine the impact of burning firecrackers on the air quality.
